Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
Specialist in Hip, Knee and Oncology Surgery
I am one of the Consultant surgeons at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, which is one of only 5 purely Orthopaedic Hospitals in the country. It has an international reputation as a centre of excellence.
I have a major interest in hip and knee surgery. I use a variety of hip and knee replacements that allow me to tailor the operation specifically for the patient to optimise function.
I am also a specialist in the treatment of bone and soft tissue tumours. I work in one of the largest bone and soft tissue tumour units in the world, treating many patients from the UK and from around the world.
I perform around 400 operations per year, mainly in knee arthroscopy (key hole surgery for torn cartilages), hip & knee replacements, revision (redo) hip and knee replacements and tumour surgery.
I have published over 50 scientific papers in the worlds most important Orthopaedic Journals and have written 3 chapters in text books about surgery.
I have won 8 academic prizes for my research including prizes for the best scientific paper at 2 prestigious international meetings. I have recently been awarded a prestigious prize by the Royal College of Surgeons to travel to Asia and Australia lecturing on bone tumours.
I regularly lecture around the world on joint replacement and tumour surgery
I am a reviewer for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (leading Orthopaedic Journal), helping to decide whether research is good enough to be published
I sit on several national committees including National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) and National Cancer Intelligence Network (NCIN)
I have a young family and have played water polo and athletics to a National level.
I enjoy good food and wine, and support Aston Villa football club!
